Parents and caregivers: If you will be bringing your child to the clinic for the first time, read the following social story with him or her. Click here to see why.
I'm Going to the Cleveland State University Speech and Hearing Clinic!
I am going to the Speech and Hearing Clinic. First, a parent or caregiver will take me in a car, and park in a big parking garage.
I will look for signs that tells us that the parking space is just
for people going to the Speech and Hearing Clinic.
Then, I will take an elevator to the 4th floor.
My parent or caregiver may let me
press the button in the elevator if I want.
After we get out of the elevator, I will walk quietly down a long hallway to the clinic.
I will see signs pointing us in the right direction.
When I arrive in the clinic's waiting room, there will be chairs to sit and wait for my teacher to come and get me, or I may choose to play with the toys that are there, too.
When my teacher comes and gets me, I will say, "hello," and follow her to a room with tables, chairs, a chalkboard and toys. My parent or caregiver can come if I want. I will stop and wait for directions from my teacher. If I start to feel upset, I will tell my teacher. When it's time to go, I will see my parent or caregiver again.
